Dear Members of the Admissions Committee,

My interest in industrial engineering grew during a placement in a manufacturing company. I had expected most production problems to come from machines. Instead, I saw how a change in work sequence, an unclear instruction or a late delivery could affect the whole line. This made me want to understand the decisions around a production system as well as the equipment within it.

My degree in mechanical engineering gave me a grounding in how products and processes work. The placement showed me where I wanted to take that knowledge next. I became interested in questions that could not be answered by inspecting a single machine: how to compare alternatives, how to interpret production data and how to decide which improvement should come first.
