Who is eligible?
Temporary work in college holiday
Summer Work Germany is the program that students who are registered at a university abroad can work temporarily for more than 90 days in Germany. Language school or Work & Study is not available.
- Who is for?
- Students who continue registration in a university abroad and are eligible for official holiday dates.
- What does the student do?
- Validate student document and holiday history; prepares documents required for business contract, approval and visa.
- What does InterAX do?
- When the service opens, we will check enrolment and holiday eligibility, the employment contract, Federal Employment Agency approval and visa steps together.
- Most important decision
- Just type is not enough to be empty. University registration, official holiday, appropriate work and necessary approvals should be provided at the same time.
How does the application work?
Confirm your enrolment and official break dates first. Check whether the Federal Employment Agency has a partner organisation for your country. Then establish the job placement, obtain the Agency's approval and employment contract, and prepare the visa application.
Where no partner organisation exists, the Agency explains a direct application route. It states 31 January as the deadline for that calendar year. Check the current channel and availability for Türkiye separately.
Which documents are needed?
The Agency lists its application form, a university-completed enrolment declaration, a current enrolment certificate and a passport copy. A certificate outside German or English may need an official translation.
For applications from Türkiye, the German missions also list the original Agency approval and an employment contract showing the employer, job type, gross pay and duration. Appointment registration uses the iDATA business waiting list; check the current official checklist before applying.
How should you plan the budget?
Gross pay in an employment contract is not take-home pay. Budget separately for accommodation, transport, insurance and the first weeks. Request a written breakdown of any agency, employer and visa costs; do not assume a guaranteed income or job.

How is this different from language study or an internship?
This route is based on temporary work during an enrolled university student's official break, not on a language course. Study residence and its work conditions follow separate rules. Field-related internships have their own eligibility and document requirements.

Frequently asked questions
Can I join through a language school?
Holiday employment requires university enrolment abroad and an official semester break. A language-school registration alone is not enough.
Does every student automatically get 90 workdays?
No. Ninety calendar days is an upper limit. Enrolment, break dates, job and Agency approval must all be checked.
Can I start if I have found an employer?
A job offer alone is not work authorisation. Agency approval, a contract and the appropriate visa process may be required.
Is German mandatory?
The required language level depends on the employer and role. Check the vacancy and the duties in your contract.
Which deadline matters?
Match your university's official break to the current application-channel deadline. For direct Agency applications, the general published deadline is 31 January.
Is this the same as Work & Study?
No. This route is temporary work for enrolled university students during their official break; it is not based on enrolment at a language school.
Who is eligible?
A short programme allowing eligible university students to take temporary jobs in Germany during their official university holidays.
How do I get permission to work?
The relevant authorities check student status, holiday dates and employment conditions. Required permission depends on the programme and application route.
Is a job guaranteed?
A job is not confirmed until matching, employer approval and the required official permission are complete. Check the role, city, hours and accommodation in writing.
Is a tax refund guaranteed?
No. A refund depends on tax withheld, income, length of employment and the annual tax return. Outcomes differ for each participant.
How do I calculate the total cost?
Tuition is only part of the cost. Include applications, visas, insurance, accommodation, travel and initial living expenses.
When should I start?
Starting 9–12 months before your intended intake leaves useful preparation time. Start earlier if tests, a portfolio or a visa appointment are required.
